The Institution Nationale des Invalides, through its Centre d'Études et de Recherche sur l'Appareillage des Handicapés, has a research department.
This department is composed of research engineers specialised in Biomechanics and Mechatronics. The main (but not exclusive) research topics are how to improve the mobility of manual wheelchair users and amputees fitted with aids, whether for everyday use or for sport.
This research - combining quantified analysis of movement (in and out of the laboratory), mechanical modeling of the equipment and its interaction with the user, as well as modeling and simulation of the human musculoskeletal system - is carried out in collaboration with numerous institutional and academic partners.
